The cross frame/cross tie is primarily used to control the distance between you and your opponent. It hinders your opponents ability to get close enough to secure a grip on your body while maintaining a distance which allows you to strike with knees, punches and palm strikes. When securing the frame, treat it as a strike to your opponents neck or throat.
