The problem with classification is that you have two arms often doing different things. For instance, your right arm may have a single neck tie while your left hand has a inside bicep tie. So do you classify that position as a single neck tie or as a inside bicep tie? The rule I have in place is that any position involving the head will be classified as a head position. From there, the cross face takes priority. Then under hook and over hook, and so on.

Cross Frame With Over Hook
Cross Frame With Shoulder/Bicep Control (Thai Knee Position)

Used As A Strike *Example

Striking
-Elbow *Example
-Palm Strike *Example
-Knee

The cross frame/cross tie is primarily used to control the distance between you and your opponent. It hinders your opponents ability to get close enough to secure a grip on your body while maintaining a distance which allows you to strike with knees, punches and palm strikes. When securing the frame, treat it as a strike to your opponents neck or throat.

The Immortal Clinch: Matt Brown

 Volume 1

Introduction - Back Story0
Some Basics Of Clinch (Stance, Wrestling VS Striking, Differences Of MT, MMA And Wrestling Clinch)
-Parallel Stance-gives you equal access to weapons on both sides of the body
-Balls of the feet, knees slightly bent
-Distance-elbow on opp. chest is a good distance.
-Heads up, back straight
3:29
Entering The Clinch5:14
Elbow Entries
-Thinks of opp. hands as having squares around them. If he is on the top or inside, he has easier elbow entry. If on the outside or bottom, harder to enter with elbow.
-Puts hands on top of opp. hands, then executes a diagonally down elbow. Doesn't really pull hands down. Instead uses them as a guide. From there move into underhook or double neck tie.
-Uses vertical up elbow to slip between guard and strike the face. From there moves to double neck tie.
7:03
Knee Entries
-From double wrist control, yank the wrist down (causes opp. to pull guard back up) & immediately knee. (He prefers to knee the side of opp. body where his leg is back). From there he moves to double neck tie.
-Hop In (fake knee), to double wrist, to knee, to double neck tie
-Switch step, to double wrist, to knee, to double neck tie
9:38
Defensive Entries
-Forearm block to inside bicep tie
-Slip jab or cross to double neck tie
-general rule-whenever you touch opp. head or limb, throw a knee
